Toaster ovens come with broiler pans, but they are
generally really
badly made. First off, they are often made of plated steel, which
doesn't hold up well in an oven. It gets all corroded and
crummy-looking, and cannot be made to look good again. And you're
cooking your food on this thing, you'd like it to look clean.
Another problem is that the broiler pans often have designs featuring
tight corners that are all but impossible to clean.
Some toaster ovens come with aluminum broiler pans.
These are
more cleanable, but they're really flimsy and easily mangled.
Also, each time you use a utensil on it, you scrape a little aluminum
off -- and some of us would prefer not to be ingesting aluminum.
What would really be nice would be broiler pans for
toaster ovens
made of stainless steel. Interestingly, stainless steel broiler
pans for regular ovens are readily available, but not for toaster
ovens. This is perhaps because the broiler pan usually comes with
the oven and toaster ovens are notoriously cheap -- the only way to
clean one is to throw it away and buy a new one, so the prices must be
kept low. But perhaps somebody could start offering a stainless
steel broiler pan as a separate accessory. Since most toaster
ovens are about the same size, one size could be offered that fits all.
